Books for 11 Year Olds

I have been blessed. My entire house (well, minus hubby) loves to read.

The downside to that aspect is trying to find books that the kids like and will keep them engaged. {And finding books for 11 year olds is harder than you think!}

When I do find something they enjoy reading, you can bet that I am sharing it with everyone so they can get their little readers something fun to read!

Blake’s Favorite Reads

Blake is my middle child and is currently 11 years old – hence books for 11 year olds.

This boy of mine can read a book in hours and move on to a new one. He has read several of the below books several times and has read every book in each of the series below (except Goosebumps).

Below are his favorite books and series:

The Last Kids on Earth by Max BrallierThe Last Kids on Earth

Book 1 of 5 (currently)

Ever since the monster apocalypse hit town, average thirteen year old Jack Sullivan has been living in his tree house, which he’s armed to the teeth with catapults and a moat, not to mention video games and an endless supply of Oreos and Mountain Dew scavenged from abandoned stores. But Jack alone is no match for the hordes of Zombies and Winged Wretches and Vine Thingies, and especially not for the eerily intelligent monster known only as Blarg. So Jack builds a team: his dorky best friend, Quint; the reformed middle school bully, Dirk; Jack’s loyal pet monster, Rover; and Jack’s crush, June. With their help, Jack is going to slay Blarg, achieve the ultimate Feat of Apocalyptic Success, and be average no longer! Can he do it?

Told in a mixture of text and black-and-white illustration, this is the perfect book for any kid who’s ever dreamed of starring in his or her own comic book or video game. And then grab the rest of the series, now a New York Times bestseller!

Dog Man by Dav PilkeyDog Man: From the Creator of Captain Underpants (Dog Man 1)

Book 1 of 6 (currently)

Howl with laughter with Dog Man, the internationally bestselling series from Dav Pilkey, the creator of Captain Underpants!

George and Harold have created a new breed of justice — one that is part dog, part man, and ALL HERO! With the head of a dog and the body of a human, this heroic hound digs into deception, claws after crooks, rolls over robbers, and scampers after squirrels. Will he be able to resist the call of the wild to answer the call of duty?

Dav Pilkey’s wildly popular Dog Man series appeals to readers of all ages and explores universally positive themes, including empathy, kindness, persistence, and the importance of being true to one’s self.

Axel and Beast: The Grabbem Getaway by Adrian C. BottThe Grabbem Getaway

Book 1 of 6 (currently)

“BEAST had a sad history. A greedy, evil company called Grabbem Industries had built him. He was supposed to be a superpowered suit of armor that would let young Gus Grabbem Junior help his father smash things up; but when BEAST found out that the things he was meant to be smashing up were things he loved, such as plants, animals and … well … most of nature, he decided to get out.”

BEAST is no ordinary robot, and Axel isn’t your usual gamer. But are they awesome enough together to escape from BEAST’s evil creators?

The Axel & Beast books are packed with super-cool tech, a diverse cast, a lightning-fast pace, and word art and energetic illustrations, along with exaggerated, over-the-top situations – and villains – to keep emerging readers glued to the page.

Operation Robot Storm by Alex MilwayOperation Robot Storm 1 (Mystical 9th Division)

Book 1 of 4 (currently)

Three yetis are about to save the world, in this hilarious new series.

In the first book in the series, Operation Robot Storm, something strange is happening in the Welsh mountains. It should be the middle of summer, but Snowdonia has been besieged by blizzards and ice storms. A company of Arctic-trained soldiers sent to investigate has disappeared, and the only remaining hope is a secret troop of yeti agents – the Mythical 9th Division. Each Mythical 9th book is fully illustrated with a four-page comic-strip chapter introduction.

Goosebumps Series by R.L. StineGoosebumps 25th Anniversary Retro Set

Goosebumps is a series of children’s horror fiction novels by American author R. L. Stine, published by Scholastic Publishing. The stories follow child characters, who find themselves in scary situations, usually involving monsters and other supernatural elements.

I remember reading Goosebumps books when I was younger and never found them to be ‘scary’ or ‘horrific’. I am not all that concerned about the kids reading them and they are a series of books that my son has grown to love.

There are – according to the internet – 235 books in the Goosebumps world. That is certainly enough to keep a young reader entertained for awhile!

Be sure to check back soon! I will be sharing Kadenn’s favorites (age 13) and Adalynn’s favorites (age 6) too, and bringing over some book reviews for adults, young adults, and children! (Hey, we’re a work in progress!)

Much love,

Miz B
