About

Who I Am

This post has been a ‘wish list’ post, if you will, for quite some time so I am rather eager and excited to finally get it written, out of my head, and published.

For the record, I observe the right to change, update, or modify this at any time because frankly; I have learned that my personal resume changes quite often!

Who I Am

1. I am Leila, pronounced LEE-la. I like to tell people to think of the name Sheila, remove the Sh and put an L. It’s also created quite a few nicknames when explained that way. {PS: My mom’s name is Sheila.}

2. I am a mom. My oldest, Kadenn, was born in 2005. My middle, Blake, was born in 2008. My youngest, Adalynn, was born in 2013. I also suffered a miscarriage in 2018.

In addition to my two legged children and my angel baby; I am a fur-mom. We have Jessie, my pit bull mix; Gibbs (aka Leroy Gethro Gibbs), hubby’s husky; Stinker (aka Lil Stinker), our tabby cat; and Jax (aka Baby Jax), our black cat. We also have fish. As you can imagine, we have a full house.

3. I am a wife. Hubby and I started dating in December 2003 and have been inseparable ever since. We got married in August 2005.

4. I am a survivor of suicide.

5. I am a mental health advocate. I have been diagnosed with severe depression and generalized anxiety disorder. In addition to my own personal mental health; my son has been diagnosed with mental health disorders and I come from a family of substance abusers (namely alcoholics.)

6. I am a serial entrepreneur. No matter how hard I try to work a 9 to 5; I just can’t. I need that extra hobby or side business to keep my fire burning. Currently, my side hustle is blogging and Color Street.

7. I am a hard core empath. And it can be tiring, and stressful, and embarrassing, and hard to handle at times. But it is who I is.

8. I am a writer with endless amounts of experience. It is one of the reasons that no matter how busy life gets; I cannot stop blogging and sharing.

9. I am a childhood cancer advocate. While I have never personally met a child with cancer; what they go through as children is too much. Which is why I stand up for childhood cancer. To bring more awareness in hopes that one day, we can do better.

10. I am a born and raised Minnesotan who has been living in the desert since 2003. Minnesota will always be my original ‘home’ but I am learning to call Arizona home after all of these years.

11. I am the oldest, middle, and only child. For my biological father; I was his only child. For my mom; I am the oldest child with younger sisters who are twins. For my stepdad (who I was raised by until the age 13ish); I was the middle child.

12. I am a full time office manager. Blogging full time earned me a part time income, but a family of 5 needed a full time income so I returned to the work force in 2017.

13. I am a volunteer for two of my local resource groups (Freecycle and Buy Nothing Project) as well as a volunteer for the region (Buy Nothing Group).

14. I am a giver to a fault, who piles way too much on her plate yet will continue to pile and push forward until burn out strikes. At which point, I will go dormant and inactive for a short period of time and then return with even more added to my plate. It’s just the way it is. (And keeping busy keeps the irrational thoughts of anxiety away!)

15. I am me. There is no other like me. I am strange, odd, unique, fun, entertaining, caring, loving, completely abnormal, a million things wrapped up in my person but I am always me.

16. I am a smart ass. How could I forget that important tidbit? I use sarcasm and humor in written form and verbal form. You will find that I tend to write the same way I would talk to you in person.

17. I am real. I will never fake anything. (Even if I dislike you, I know how to be cordial for the setting, but you will know of my distaste of you.) I wear my everything on my sleeve. I am who I am and if you don’t like it, I’m sorry. I won’t change.

18. I am the caretaker who takes care of everyone else; often forgetting to take care of myself.

19. I am the shoulder to cry on; the ear to vent to. Always. For anyone.

20. I am a lost soul who often feels like an orphan, wandering the Earth wondering where I fit in.

21. A friend who is sometimes too good of a friend for the friends that I keep in my company.

PS: I already published this and then came back to add things I forgot. I’m a mom – I forget. A lot. Hence, it will be added to as I think of things because as mentioned right off the bat; this post has been swirling in my head for months and I know there were more things to add! Stay tuned and check back often!

PS (again!): Share with me who you are! I love getting to know new people and making more friends who live in the computer! You can message me on any of my social media channels, leave me a comment, or shoot me an email! I would love to hear from you!

Love,

Miz B
